Until this board fills, these are the places to search in parallel. State-owned housing companies rent at fair prices and do not charge a Makler fee; dorms are the cheapest option for students. Found nothing? Post what you need above so flatmates with a room free can find you.

Shared flats (WG) and sublets

Where most rooms are. Reply fast, in German if you can, and never pay before a viewing.

Whole flats

Portals plus the big private landlords, who list directly and take no Makler fee.

State-owned housing companies

Fair rents, no fee, long waiting lists. Register early and keep your profile active.

Apply to your city's Studierendenwerk the day you get admission; waits run 1 to 3 semesters.

How this board works, and one legal line we hold

Posts come from people in the community: a WG with a room free, a sublet while someone is in India for three months, a flat, or someone searching. A person reviews every post before it appears, and posts leave the board after 45 days.

Listings describe the household, never the wanted tenant's ethnicity. "Vegetarian kitchen" and "Hindi spoken at home" are facts about the flat; "Indians only" is discrimination under §19 AGG for ordinary rentals, and we do not publish it. For a room in the flat you live in yourself, German law leaves you free to choose your flatmate; the ad still describes the household, and the choice stays yours.
