What this checks, and what it doesn't

For each programme the checker compares five things a listing can state: the length of bachelor's it requires (in ECTS credits), a grade cut-off, the prior subjects it wants, and the English and German levels it asks for. A programme clears when nothing it states rules you out. It is conditional when something needs a human judgement (a related-field question, a grade cap you haven't entered marks for). It doesn't meet when a stated requirement is missed outright.

What it never does is guess. If a listing says nothing about degree length, that shows as “not stated”, and DAAD's own advice for that case is quoted: with a three-year degree, contact the course coordinator before applying. It also does not replace uni-assist's formal assessment, APS verification, or the programme's own admission decision.

Where the data comes from

The 366 programmes are every entry in DAAD's International Programmes in Germany database that we read on 2026-09-03. Each requirement here is a fact extracted from that listing, shown with the sentence it came from and a link to the full entry; the listings themselves are DAAD's and are not reproduced.

Two limits matter. Listing in that database is voluntary, so it is not a census of German higher education: RWTH Aachen, for instance, runs dozens of English-taught programmes and lists one. And listings are written by the universities in their own words, so where a requirement is stated vaguely, the checker reports it as unclear rather than deciding for you. The dataset is rebuilt from DAAD each year; the date above tells you how fresh it is.

How your marks become a German grade

German universities convert foreign grades with the modified Bavarian formula, the method recommended by the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and used by uni-assist, TUM and most admissions offices:

German grade = 1 + 3 × (N_max − N_d) / (N_max − N_min)

N_max is the best grade your system awards (100%, or CGPA 10), N_d is the grade you got, and N_min is the lowest passing grade. The result runs from 1.0 (best) to 4.0 (lowest pass). N_min is the catch for Indian transcripts: universities use 40, 45 or 50 out of 100 depending on their own rules and what your degree certificate states as the pass mark, and a higher N_min gives you a better German grade. The checker defaults to 40 and lets you change it. Sources: TUM, HRK guideline (via Uni Halle).

Applying after Class 12

For bachelor's programmes the checker applies anabin's assessment of the Indian Class 12 certificate: at least 70% overall opens a Studienkolleg year or direct entry after one completed year of an Indian bachelor's; passing both JEE Main and JEE Advanced opens direct entry with no minimum percentage.
