Can I switch from a student visa to the Opportunity Card without leaving Germany?
In principle yes. §20a(4) of the Residence Act allows the Opportunity Card to be issued inside Germany to someone who already holds a residence permit under sections 3 or 4 of the Act, and a study permit is in section 3. You still need the proof of funds, and either a qualification fully recognised in Germany (then no points) or the points route with its language requirement. But check whether it is the right move. If you have just graduated from a German university, the post-study job-search permit (§20) exists for exactly your situation and does not carry the Opportunity Card's 20-hours-a-week work limit. The Opportunity Card makes more sense for people who studied outside Germany.
